History June Warren founded Sage School in 1967. The first Montessori class was conducted in 1971, by 1975 the school offered only Montessori programs. We now provide a blend of Montessori and play-based curriculum. The Sage Cottage site opened in 1996, and currently provides 3 classrooms: Infant-Toddler class for ages 6 weeks to 24 months 3 to 1 child-teacher ratio Transition class for ages 2 and 3 years 6 to 1 child-teacher ratio Early Childhood class for ages 3 to 5 years 7 to 1 child-teacher ratio

We operate Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Sage Cottage is licensed by Children, Youth, and Families Department of the State of New Mexico and Los Alamos County.
Memberships include: National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Association Montessori International/USA (AMI/USA) North American Montessori Teachers’ Association (NAMTA) New Mexico Child Care Association (NMCCA) Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce.
Mission
Sage Cottage Montessori School strives to provide a safe, loving, inviting environment for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Sage Cottage is a place where children are given the opportunity to learn, explore, grow, and develop social skills. The specific goals for the children who attend the School are: To develop a positive self-image. To develop a love of learning and feel comfortable in school. To learn respect of all life and the environment. To develop and foster an abiding curiosity. To develop skills of initiative and self-direction. . To foster inner discipline and a sense of order. To develop socially acceptable behavior. To acquire the basic skills necessary for a lifetime of learning.
Philosophy
Sage Cottage Montessori School's philosophy is to guide children in the development of a positive self-image through a unique combination of Montessori, Play-oriented, Science-based, and Self-directed programs. This will help foster self-confidence, respect of life and environment, love of learning, and socially acceptable behavior. We strive to be an eco-friendly facility concerned for our planet and children’s future.
Educational Setting
Sage Cottage Montessori School encourages the children to learn through playing and working with the materials available to them. We emphasize science oriented activities and play. Children are encouraged and given opportunities on a daily basis to explore their environment and to work individually or in teams as they learn and play. We spend lots of time exploring and playing outdoors . The Montessori and play-based curriculum provides children with meaningful and enjoyable experiences to enhance their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
